Lash Lift Aftercare: Do and Don’t Timeline for First 48 Hours

I love when someone leaves their lash lift saying their lashes “look amazing” and the visit felt “super easy and comfortable.” Now protect that result. The single most important rule for the first 48 hours is simple: keep your lashes dry and keep oils away. In Miami, that also means being mindful of humidity, sweat, and steam so the lift sets the way it’s supposed to and lasts about 6 to 8 weeks.
Your first 24 to 48 hours: the “hands off, water off” lash lift rules
A lash lift is basically a gentle reshaping of your natural lash. Right after your appointment, the curl is still setting. That’s why I’m strict about the timeline below.
0 to 24 hours
- Do not wet your lashes. No face washing that splashes the eye area, no shower spray on the lashes, no rain in your face.
- Skip steam and heat. No sauna, no hot yoga, and keep your face away from steamy pots and long hot showers.
- No mascara or eye makeup. It’s not worth the friction and remover this early.
- Don’t rub or pick. If you feel an itch, tap around the orbital bone instead of touching the lashes.
Miami reality check: humidity plus sweat can act like “water exposure.” If you’re in Kendall West and you’re running kids to practice or hopping off the Palmetto Expressway, keep a clean blotting tissue and a small umbrella in your bag for surprise rain.
24 to 48 hours
- Still avoid oils. Oil-based cleansers, balms, and heavy eye creams can weaken the lift.
- Keep workouts light if you can. If you have to sweat, keep a towel away from the lashes. Pat your forehead, not your eyes.
- Sleep smart. Try to sleep on your back, or at least avoid smashing your lashes into a pillow.

The first week: how to keep that “wide-eyed” look without undoing it
Once you’re past the first 48 hours, your lashes usually feel normal again. This is where people accidentally shorten the life of their lift by using the wrong products or getting a little too aggressive with makeup removal.
Avoid waterproof mascara and lash curlers (give it a full week)
Waterproof mascara takes more rubbing to remove, and rubbing is the fastest way to disturb a fresh lift. Lash curlers can kink lifted lashes and make them look uneven. If you want mascara after day two, choose a regular formula and remove it gently with an oil-free remover.
Be careful with pools, salt water, and hot tubs
Chlorine and salt can dry lashes out. Hot tubs combine heat, steam, and chemicals, which is a lot in week one. If you can, wait at least a few days after the 48-hour mark before swimming. And rinse your face with fresh water after, keeping it gentle around the lash line.
Quick on-the-go tip: Keep a clean mini spoolie in your bag. If lashes look a little crossed after a long humid Miami day, a gentle brush fixes it fast without rubbing.

Oil-free cleanser, clean spoolie, lash conditioner: my simple routine after 48 hours
After the first 48 hours, you don’t need a complicated routine. You need consistency. The goal is to keep lashes clean, separated, and conditioned, without breaking down the lift.
1) Cleanse with an oil-free face wash
Use light pressure around the eyes. If you wear makeup, choose an oil-free remover and let it dissolve product before you wipe.
2) Brush daily with a clean spoolie
One gentle brush in the morning is usually enough. If you brush more, wash the spoolie often so you’re not dragging old makeup or skincare through the lashes.
3) Add an oil-free lash conditioner or serum at night
Think of it like hair care. Conditioned lashes tend to stay smoother and nicer looking through the full life of the lift.
